Aeronautical engineer Burt Rutan designed and built the Boomerang aircraft to test a variety of aeronautical concepts that he had been unable to explore in planes built for customers. The plane was controlled by a Macintosh computer and featured one engine mounted on the fuselage and one engine mounted on the left wing. This assymetric contruction lessened the possibility of a stall spin accident if one engine failed on take-off or landing.
